Oh yes I am back

Yes hello, I am writing again. After long break, i have returned to internet device to share thoughts. Which, as you know, I have many but unfortunately must keep private most of them. In this return, I will cover quickly 1) architecture of a scientific organization, 2) Asia, and 3) fashion

1) architecture of focus in science organization

the approach to platform company I deem wholly incorrect. Platform companies never makes sense. You have to crystallize your benefit enabled by science into something usable for people. With less friction in the use case. People say “oh but sir look at genentech” but clearly bob was locked on somatostatin. Maybe Im wrong, I don’t know, but “platform” seems to indicate a lack of “purpose”.

Science, like other belief system, is tool in toolbox. Sometimes toolbox is messy, disorganized, etc.. For utilitarian, this can be taken too far. For romantic type (ex. luddite), this is not taken far enough. I think, best scientists understand when to use tool well.

successful development mostly requires just stellar people. I think corporate bloat is real problem. we currently have significant labor problem in USA currently, which is complex culmination of the relaxation of the original, tightly-bound spirit that forged America. I do not know what true solution is here, but this leads me to next topic:

2) Asia

I am asian. Perhaps this is explanatory reason. But discussing with companies in Asia the means by which the world progresses forward is becoming very preferable.

Many similarities between eddas and vedas. What could this mean?

3) fashion design

Garment making is interesting. The iterative process is helpful. I like idea of constant refinement, with minimal upfront strategy, to test end-product once developed. For subjective matters, easy to get stuck in aristocratic-style values&morals design inspiration and hypothesis thinking styles. Short term this creates nice coffee-table book, but long term the sands of time erode away.

The foundation for breakthroughs is laid iteratively, over time, and which creates environment for breakthrough happens easily & without friction rapidly with blitz type speed.

Alien Dreadnought

Making a factory that makes things 100% automated might not be so easy. Velocys had similar issues.

Page Shirtum mentioned making lots of modular skids would be hard.

From a Tesla Patent:

“Because traditional cables are not rigid, they may not be easily formed into different shapes and routed to a pre-determined location amidst tight spatial constraints. Routing traditional, flexible cables during manufacturing, for example to connect different components during automobile manufacturing, typically cannot be automated and therefore require humans to place by hand. Such manual placement is time-consuming, tedious, and costly. Hence, there is a need for a structural cable that overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks.”

Robots might not be entirely replacing humans in production. It’s a matter of time.

But when?

JR Simplot

Purchased hogs in a glut, was forced to hunt horses to keep the hogs alive.

Kept taking risks. Was not sure how he was going to fulfill the orders when he committed to them. He figured it out.

Potato sorting, freeze drying, and french fries were all doubtful to work.

People told him to go slow, he told them “thanks, no thanks”

And then there’s Micron.

Can't know everything

I recently moved into a new apartment in an area in downtown Los Angeles. There are a lot of nice coffee shops here. One of my favorites, Go Get Em Tiger, recently closed down due to COVID-19. Sad.

  • I was recently reading about credit default swaps. They are quite interesting. On one hand, the complexity can get out of hand. On the other hand, they can really effectively hedge. Since it’s only a matter of time before every company becomes an asset manager / financial services company, I look forward to the day I can further understand these contracts.

  • I also read about narratives. Something can be valued based on the story it has told (to date). This is quite effective. An optimized narrative can help predict the future. Sometimes, this can bail you out of a tough spot.

I just learnt about both of these things. I also felt blind-sighted by both. Hope to learn more soon.
